Emirates Palace opened in 2005 at the western end of the Corniche in Abu Dhabi, built by the government of the emirate to receive official guests and international visitors. Its central dome, its wings and its gardens stretch along a private beach, and no luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi is more monumental. Since 2020 it has been operated by Mandarin Oriental.
History
The palace was conceived as a showcase for the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and it regularly hosts heads of state, summits and cultural events. Its auditorium and ballroom have received concerts and international conferences.
Architecture and design
The building follows the forms of traditional Arabian architecture on a monumental scale: a central dome surrounded by smaller domes, arcades and courtyards, in sand-coloured stone. The interiors use marble, mosaics and gold leaf, and the grand atrium under the main dome is the centre of the hotel.
Location
The hotel faces the Arabian Gulf on its own beach and gardens, close to Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace, and a short drive from Saadiyat Island and its museums.
Weddings and events
Emirates Palace is one of the major venues for weddings, galas and conferences in the Gulf, with a ballroom, an auditorium and gardens by the sea.
