The Ritz Paris opened on Place Vendôme in 1898, founded by the Swiss hotelier César Ritz with the chef Auguste Escoffier. More than a century later it remains one of the reference addresses of Parisian hospitality, and one of the few luxury hotels in Paris set on a square of this architectural importance.
History
César Ritz built his reputation in Monte Carlo and London before opening his own house in Paris. The hotel quickly became a meeting point for writers, artists and designers: Ernest Hemingway gave his name to the bar, and Coco Chanel lived at the hotel for more than thirty years. The Ritz closed in 2012 for a four-year restoration and reopened in 2016.
Architecture and design
The hotel sits behind the uniform façades that Jules Hardouin-Mansart designed for Place Vendôme at the end of the 17th century, in the baroque style of the period. The façade is a classified historical monument, which means its appearance on the square has barely changed since the hotel opened.
Dining and wellness
Dining runs from a gastronomic restaurant to the bars, including the Bar Hemingway. The hotel also has a spa with treatments, facials and a beauty offer, and a cooking school named after Auguste Escoffier.
Weddings and events
The Ritz Paris hosts weddings, private dinners and corporate events. Planners can describe their date, number of guests and occasion through the request form on this page: it is sent directly to the hotel’s events team.
