The Peninsula Paris, Paris, France

The Peninsula Paris stands on avenue Kléber in the 16th arrondissement, between the Arc de Triomphe and the Trocadéro. The building opened in 1908 as the Hotel Majestic, counted among the great hotels of the Belle Époque, and in 2014 it became the first European hotel of The Peninsula group, founded in Hong Kong.

History

After its years as a hotel, the building was taken over by the French state and served as the first headquarters of UNESCO, then as an international conference centre. The Paris Peace Accords that ended American involvement in the Vietnam War were signed there in January 1973. The Peninsula group restored the building for four years before reopening it as a hotel.

Architecture and design

The restoration brought back the Haussmannian façade, the carved stonework and the gilded salons, with the help of French craftsmen. The lobby and the historic salons keep their period decoration, while the 200 rooms, including 93 suites, combine classic Parisian design with modern technology. The hotel has a spa with an indoor pool.

Dining

On the roof, the restaurant L’Oiseau Blanc pays tribute to the aviators Nungesser and Coli with a replica of their aircraft, and looks over the rooftops of Paris to the Eiffel Tower.

Weddings and events

The historic salons of The Peninsula Paris host weddings, dinners and conferences near the Arc de Triomphe.
