The Château d'Aon receives weddings and family receptions for up to 90 guests seated at round tables, and seminars, meetings and training sessions for up to 40 people. The venue is a medieval fortified house in the village of Hontanx, in the Bas-Armagnac part of the Landes, owned by the commune and run as a reception and event centre since 1990.
Seminars and company events
Company meetings, training courses, workshops and seminars take place in the Salle Saint-Blaise all year round. In training layout the room takes up to 40 people. The chapel is divided into two areas, one for working and one for meals, with a preparation space alongside. Tables, chairs and standing tables are included, and video and sound equipment is provided. Meals can be served by the château's restaurant and groups can sleep in the lodgings, so a two-day programme can stay in one place.
Weddings and receptions
Weddings come first among the events the château hosts, alongside birthdays and family receptions. The Salle Saint-Blaise seats up to 90 guests at round tables and opens directly onto the park, which gives space for drinks and photographs. The team follows each project from the booking of the room through to coordination with the couple's own suppliers.
Rooms and capacities
The event room is the Salle Saint-Blaise, the former chapel of the château, set in the park. It keeps its vaulted ceiling and stone walls. Capacity is up to 90 seated at round tables for a meal and up to 40 for a training session. The château does not publish a figure for a standing reception.
Accommodation
Four lodgings are offered, all in the village centre. Le Château, in the main building, sleeps 16 people in three separate sections. Le Presbytère, about 100 metres away, sleeps 20. La Poste, above the village post office about 150 metres away, sleeps six. Le Logis, around 60 metres from the château, has three rooms that can be arranged to suit the group. Comfort is simple and suits families, friends and teams.
Catering
The château runs its own restaurant. On weekdays it serves a set lunch on booking. For groups of ten or more, meals can be arranged in the evening and at weekends, with menus written for the occasion. Dishware can be supplied on request for events.
History and setting
A wooden castle first stood on the site in the 11th century. In the 13th century it was replaced by a rectangular fortified house of stone and brick on a castle mound, built on three levels for defence and for the lord's household. A wing was added in the 17th century. In leaner periods the building served as a farm with a barn. The chapel, Romanesque in origin, has a seven-sided apse facing north and was used for decades as a granary before local volunteers restored it in the 1980s. The commune bought the château in 1980. It has been protected as a historic monument since 1988, and its wider grounds since 2019.
Getting there
The address is 171 route des Châteaux, 40190 Hontanx. The village lies in the Bas-Armagnac, east of Mont-de-Marsan, and is best reached by road.
