Seminars, company days, team-building programmes, weddings and private receptions can all be held at Château du Plessis-Bourré, in Écuillé, Anjou. Three historic halls each take 100 guests, and a marquee in the park seats 250 for a meal or holds 280 for a cocktail. About 30 people can sleep on the estate, in gîtes, caravans and rooms in the outbuildings.
Seminars and company events
The château hires out its spaces for meetings, seminars and company gatherings, with breakfast, lunch, dinner or a cocktail served on site. Working sessions run in the Salle Jean Bourré or the Salle du Parlement, and a screen and video projector are available. Team building is run with the local partner Anjou Sport Nature. Formats range from an escape game for 5 to 12 players to Koh Lanta-style challenges for 8 to 40, a cardboard car build from 16 people, the Fluo Game, the Challenge Robinson and a half-day tournament for up to 400. Groups of 20 or more can add a free or guided tour of the château.
Weddings and receptions
Weddings follow two formulas: a reception inside the château or a reception in the park. Cocktails and secular ceremonies take place in the 1,400 m² main courtyard, which has a gallery for wet weather, beside the moats or along the tree-lined Allée du Mail. Dinner is served in the Salle du Parlement or under the marquee, and dancing moves to the Salle du Caveau. With no neighbours and no curfew, a party can run until morning, and a day-after gathering can be added.
Rooms and capacities
The Salle du Parlement, on the first floor, is a vaulted Renaissance hall of 120 m² with a large fireplace, kept in its 15th-century layout. It takes 100 guests. The Salle du Caveau, on the ground floor under the vault of a former wine press, also measures 120 m² and takes 100. The Salle Jean Bourré has two levels, one between courtyard and garden and a bright upper room under exposed timbers, again for 100. The park marquee covers 300 m². Round and rectangular tables and velvet or wooden chairs are provided.
Accommodation
The estate sleeps about 30: two caravans for two people in the park, two independent double rooms in the outbuildings, the Bergerie gîtes for eight and the Gîte de Beauvais for 14, about 500 m from the château.
Catering
Organisers choose their own caterer. The château can also point to partners for a buffet, a seated lunch or a cocktail.
History and setting
Jean Bourré, treasurer to Louis XI, bought the estate in 1462 and built the château between 1468 and 1473. It combines the defences of a late medieval fortress with an arcaded gallery and tall mullioned windows that look ahead to the Renaissance, and it has changed little since. Listed as a historic monument in 1931 and open to visitors since 1955, it is still kept by the same family and has served as a film location.
Getting there
The château stands in open countryside at Écuillé, north of Angers. The nearest TGV station is Angers Saint-Laud, about 20 km away.
